Shikoku

For those that have asked, or are simply wondering, the island i am going to in Japan is nowhere near the current disaster area. In fact, it's on the opposite end of the country, over 400 miles (650 km) to the southwest as the crow flies.

Below is a map i brazenly stole from some website online (sorry) and on it you'll see the disaster area circled in the northeast. Then waaaayyyy down to the southwest is the island of Shikoku.

Shikoku wasn't affected by the earthquake, didn't even feel any tremors. The tsunami didn't hit the island. As of today, life continues as normal there.

All is OK.

and thank the gods it wasn't struck...i hazard a guess with all the tragedy over there at the moment, that the next couple of years will see some of those hit by the events, become henro for a while, to calm the heart and cleanse the souls.

You could be right, i can easily picture this to be the case. But another part of me thinks that being a henro is far from cheap and a great many of the people you refer to have lost everything they own. They may need all their extra money as they rebuild their lives in new towns, new jobs, new houses, and on and on...
